Position Summary

The Adult Workforce Development department at OBT strives to place both walk in clients as well as participants from its adult literacy programs into family sustaining wage jobs.  This work requires the development of suitable employment, training, and service partners as well as individual and group work readiness development efforts with program participants. 

The Job Developer will develop and work with employer partners around the development of suitable job orders for program participants, prepare program participants with resumes, application completion skills, and interview skills, and capitalize on the employer partner relationships to secure placement and retention documents for those placed in employment with these partners.  Partnership development should home in on those growth sectors in which the agency is training its participants, across all contracts. 

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

    • Meet with Director of Career Pathways on a weekly basis to ensure metrics (monthly, quarterly and yearly) are being met. 
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of participants designed to evaluate employment history, education, skills, qualifications, support service needs and vocational interests. 
    • Possess a comprehensive job bank and the ability to leverage relationships with employers to meet the employment needs of OBT’s client base. 
    • Prepare participants individually and in groups for the application and interview process for job orders development in collaboration with employer partners. 
    • Design and create recruitment strategies, such as hiring events, on-site employer events, and facilitated information sessions for internet and application processes. 
    • Successfully secure monthly/quarterly metrics, including part-time and/or full-time employment of 20 hours a week or more and placed individuals must meet retention milestones. 
    • Assist in identifying and developing vocational certification training, social services, and programs not currently being offered.   

     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
    • A passionate commitment to OBT’s mission and vision. 
    • A track record tied to exceptional success in preparing job seekers for entre into and persistence in unsubsidized employment. Preference given to those applicants with a cadre of employer partners already committed to working with them. 
    • Knowledge of New York City labor market trends and employer-based tax incentives. 
    • The ability to establish strong working relationships with team members, colleagues, participants, and external stakeholders. 
    • Strong skill set in data management and data tracking; demonstrated experience managing data collection, analysis, and reporting. 

Education and Experience/Training

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelors preferred. 
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in business development, marketing or recruiting
