Laura Garbes: Anchoring Achievement in Mexican Communities, Coordinator

Before OBT, Ms. Garbes was a fellow in the highly selective Immigrant Justice Corps, where she played a major role in establishing immigration services at Part of the Solution in the Bronx. During her time there, she became certified as a legal representative by the Board of Immigration Appeals and diligently worked one-on-one with clients in the process of navigating citizenship, green cards, DACA, DAPA and more. Ms. Garbes also has extensive knowledge of housing issues and rights in New York City from her experience at Lift the Bronx, where she helped clients apply for low-income housing units, carried out eviction prevention measures, and worked closely with Bronx Defenders to prepare for court cases. Her experience is rounded out by over three years of teaching English and participating in various research projects in Peru and the United States. Ms. Garbes holds a double BA in Psychology and Spanish with a minor in Linguistics from Tufts University in Medford, MA.
