Dani Smejkal: Interim Chief Program Officer

Dani has been working in the social services/non-profit community for over 20 years. She has spent the last 10 years working with Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow. When Dani first joined OBT, she started there as a Youth Counselor. She was then promoted to Senior Counselor and then made the jump to management after being named the Director of the Out of School Youth program. In addition to the OSY program, Dani has also managed OBT’s Medical Administrative Assistant Program and has served as the Senior Director of Y Roads Partnerships overseeing both the Y Roads Center in Jamaica Queens and the Y Roads Center in Mott Haven Bronx which included managing multiple OSY programs along with a YAIP program. Dani was then promoted to Senior Management, serving as Senior Director of Programs with a portfolio that included all Y Roads Programming and all YAIP programming, including YAIP Plus which is a paid internship program for ACS foster care and juvenile justice youth. On her 10 year anniversary, Dani was then promoted to Chief Program Officer for the entire agency and steps into this new role this week. Before coming to OBT, Dani taught Adult Basic Education and was also a Special Education Teacher at a high school in South Central Los Angeles California in addition to working as a behavioral therapist with children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Dani’s educational background also spans both sides of the country. Dani began her undergraduate education as a psychology major at New York University and later received her Bachelors in Psychology at California State University Northridge. Dani returned back to New York to obtain her Masters Degree and has received her Master’s in Psychology from The New School University in New York City.
