New York City (December 20, 2018) – After serving the Sunset Park community at 783 4th Avenue in Brooklyn for the past twenty-five years, Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) is moving its headquarters a few blocks away to 882 3rd Avenue at Industry City.
Located on the 10th floor of a twelve-story building in Industry City, the new location will enable OBT to continue serving the community’s residents through job training and education programs. It will feature state of the art facilities, access to hundreds of local employers, and close proximity to various public transportation lines. “Since our founding, OBT has been committed to the residents of Sunset Park and the surrounding communities. This new location ensures that we continue to be a bridge between jobseekers and the employment opportunities that exist along the waterfront and beyond”, says CEO Liliana Polo-McKenna.
Since 2016, OBT has operated its TechSTART program as part of the “Innovation Lab,” a collaborative effort between local non-profits, educational institutions, and Industry City to connect people to training, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities at Industry City. The TechSTART program teaches young adults ages 17-24 how to code and design websites, preparing them for a career in technology.
OBT will continue to offer its signature Youth Education and Job Training Program with High School Equivalency Prep, Young Adult Internship Program Plus, and English for Speakers of Other Languages Classes at the new location. It will also remain OBT’s main administrative office. The move to the new location is scheduled to be complete by June 30, 2019.
Board Chairman, Vince Chirico of Chirico Law PLLC and Board Vice-Chairman, Dan Marks of TerraCRG advised OBT in the site selection and lease negotiation.
