Foundational and Advanced Math
(Part-Time)

Location: Remote to Onsite (Brooklyn, NY)

Position Summary:
Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow is looking for an experienced Foundational and Advanced Math Instructor.  Work hours would be Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Reporting to the Coordinator of Academics, the Foundational and Advanced Math Instructor will develop and facilitate comprehensive and dynamic arithmetic instruction to Pre-HSE and HSE level students ages 16-24 in our Advance and Earn, Young Professional’s Institute Program. The Instructor will be responsible for creating and teaching content that aids participants in educational gain and TASC readiness.  The instructor will work under the guidance of the Academic Coordinator to identify participants that are in need of additional support and provide 1:1 and small group instruction based on areas of concern.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop interactive and intentional curriculum for both the pre-HSE and HSE classes that seeks to facilitate grade and/or NRS level gain
  • Track, monitor and input data on all funder and internally required student and program milestones and outcomes
  • Utilize dynamic platforms to facilitate classes in the remote environment
  • Facilitate meaningful and interactive classes onsite, when applicable
  • Employ strength based, youth centered approach to support strong attendance and participation
  • Develop, collect and track internal and funder mandated worksheets
  • Administer the TABE test
  • Work collaboratively with the Advance and Earn and Academic Team to ensure cohesive messaging and services to youth
  • Attend all required program, team and agency meetings
  • Attend trainings and monitor trends on optimizing student learning
  • All other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor

 The Ideal Candidate will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and facilitate intentional academic content geared toward facilitating educational gain and/or TASC attainment
  • Work closely with the Academic team to identify gaps in educational services and provide recommendations
  • Ability to work closely with an interdisciplinary team to identify and respond to, as well as raise, participant academic, social, emotional, and vocational needs
  • Be passionate about providing educational opportunities and skills to opportunity young adults
  • Understand the positive correlation between educational opportunity and equity
  • Ability to meet deadlines and enter data in a timely and accurate manner
  • Have prior demonstrated success in developing and facilitating math instruction to a diverse group of learners at varying levels of proficiency
  • Demonstrate cultural competency in forming relationships with participants, community partners, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrate ability to work with internal and external partners

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required (Bachelor’s Degree in Education preferred)
  • Background in math instruction
  • Experience with science instruction, as well, preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience
  • Experience in curriculum development and design
  • Experience in non-profit preferred
