OBT at the 2023 State of the City
It was an honor to attend NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ “2023 State of the City” address as @OBTJOBS President & CEO Dr. Darlene Williams, PhD with our Director of External Affairs & Policy Ashley Elizabeth Ball.
He discussed his four (4) Pillars for the City, and the first Pillar is “JOBS” – “Jobs, Safety, Housing & Care”.
NYC’S Employment growth is outpacing the State and the Nation, but here’s MORE….JOBS: Mayor Adams committed to reimagining jobs to DISMANTLE INEQUITY due to Black New Yorkers having a disproportionate unemployment rate than their counterparts; Continuing to DIVERSIFY the City Talent Pool: “When you Diversity your Administration you Diversity Your Opportunities”; A Focus on DIVERSTY for the New York City Talent Pool; CENTER for workplace ACCESSIBILITY & INCLUSION; EXPANDING NYC’s CUNY Tech program to Communities of Color; INCREASING apprenticeship programs to train for high demand jobs; EXPANDING NYC’s Nursing Education Partnership with CUNY; Ensuring that companies with City Contracts hire local community members to BREAK DOWN inequity barriers; ALLOCATING City funds to Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE); Ensuring that every child who graduates from a NYC High School has a PATH TOWARDS SUCCESS – Job, Job Training, or College; Making the LARGEST OFF-SHORE WIND in the country at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal with a direct pipeline to jobs. THANK YOU NYC Office of the Mayor Eric Adams for truly aligning with OBT’s Mission
