Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer the Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate OBT’s mission. The Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing will ensure that OBT is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information within the workforce development sector.
The Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing will work closely with the Executive team a as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives promoting OBT’s mission and brand on a local, state, and national level with the spotlight on the organization’s job training, educational and employment placement programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the sector’s audiences in collaboration with OBT’s team and constituents.
- Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate.
- Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.
- Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and OBT’s website.
- Mentor and lead a team responsible for OBT’s website and social media administration and coordination.
- Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
- Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time.
- Coordinate and organize annual meetings that engage the network’s discreet audiences.
- Manage all media contacts.
Marketing Strategy Development
- Develop and implement an organizational strategic communications plan that
- increases internal awareness and understanding of OBT’s strategic plan, vision for growth & impact, and inspires members of OBT’s staff to publicly champion the organization’s mission.
- broadens and strengthens OBT’s brand identity across key stakeholders, including donors, elected officials, community partners, and alumni.
- Create a public relations strategy that allows for OBT leadership to engage and cultivate important relationships with external audiences, including the media, public officials, and community partners.
- Collaborate with the Executive Cabinet, identify organizational and sector-based challenges, and develop responsive communications solutions.
- Work with the Development Team to develop and implement a robust engagement strategy which engages current and prospective donors and funders, building a dialogue through all communications channels (e.g., e-mail, social media, direct mail, face-to-face, and media).
- Awareness and savviness regarding local economic and education issues; knowledge of workforce development preferred.
Digital Marketing & Social Media
- Ensure that OBT maintains an online presence and social media strategy that remains fresh, builds upon social media trends, and advances the organization’s mission and needs.
- Work with Development Team to develop electronic communications (e.g., website, social media, and email marketing campaigns).
- Curate content and increase engagement on OBT’s social media channels.
- Manage and expand OBT’s visual content library, including photos and videos, and acquire photo releases from OBT programs participants.
- Use Google Analytics and other tools to measure and report on the performance of all digital campaigns, as well as site traffic/usage activity.
Press
- Strategically prioritize media opportunities, including support in preparing talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed.
- Lead the organization’s media interactions, with a focus on promoting OBT’s impact.
- Cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of relevant issues, OBT programming, and special events/projects.
Branding
- Oversee the continued development and use of the OBT brand, including the development of OBT branded materials (printed & online).
- Work with the Executive Cabinet & Development Team to create and publish OBT’s annual report.
- Ensure consistency of all advertising, promotions, and communications across platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively.
- Self-starter who works well on own or within a team.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must travel across local OBT sites and attend external events.
Education and Experience/Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 3+ years related work experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, required.
- Proven work experience as a marketing communications specialist.
- Experience with marketing campaigns on social media.
- Experience in designing and/or executing communications strategies.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite/Photoshop, In Design, or other image editing and publication software; experience with WordPress and/or HTML, preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with web content management tools (e.g., Social media platforms, Graphic Design Platforms, Canva)
- Experience using content management systems and AdWords.
- Experience with planning and/or managing events.
