Coordinator of Academics-Advance and Earn

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow (OBT) is looking for a strong leader to be a Coordinator of Academics in our Advance and Earn Program. This position will provide supervision, leadership and oversight of an interdisciplinary team of staff serving young adults. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Coordinator of Academics will be responsible for the implementation of a new program that supports opportunity youth 17-24 in three program components including contextualized academic programming at the Pre-HSE level, comprehensive High School Equivalency and work based learning and sector focused advanced training.


  • Provide supervision to the staff providing academic instruction at all levels
  • In collaboration with our partner at the NYC Department of Education, establish academic programming protocols and processes for monitoring progress
  • Manage and coordinate curricula design including the development of immersive, differentiated, project based and responsive workshops and lesson plans.
  • Develop and implement workshops and instruction that are contextualized and provide a range of work based learning opportunities
  • Assure achievement of all program milestones, benchmarks and credentials at required intervals
  • Monitor the flow of young adults throughout program components
  • Develop systems for and track all data
  • Share data as appropriate with other OBT teams, including College Access and Employment Teams
  • Monitor data for patterns that necessitate interventions
  • Support data collection analysis for grant application and reporting
  • Provide regular observation, feedback and coaching to improve academic instruction
  • Provide professional development to instructional staff to share best practices and improve educational programming.

  • Have experience with/knowledge of integrated programs providing work based learning and academic instruction


  • Bachelor’s degree, Masters preferred
  • At least three years of relevant work experience, in literacy and/or academic instruction
  • At least three years of demonstrated curricula development
  • Experience in workforce programs a plus
